The National President, Nigerian Correctional Officers Wives’ Association and the wife of the Controller General of Corrections, Aisha Nababa, has said, to tackle insecurity bedevilling the nation and other social vices, the full participation of women is required.

According to her, women, being the builders of homes can lay a foundation for a peaceful and prosperous country.

Nababa spoke at the National Convention of the association, themed; ‘National Security and the Corrections Officers Wives’ held in Abuja on Saturday.

She, however, advocated for the inclusion of women in strategies and policies devised to curtail insecurity in the country.

Nababa said, “There are various ways that women, and especially we, the Corrections Officers Wives, can contribute in the reduction of insecurity in the country.

As women, we are builders of healthy homes and we lay the foundation for very good, peaceful and prosperous society.

“I believe women should be incorporated while coming up with strategies and policies to combat insecurity in the country.

“Consequently, I sincerely hope that this convention will help to remind us of our unique roles as catalyst of change and to re-enforce the energy within us to live up that roles.”

Delivering the keynote address, the former Spokesperson for the NCS, Francis Enobore (retd.), said bandits, terrorists and the Indigenous People of Biafra, had worsen the state of insecurity in the country.

He urged the service to ensure no effort was spared to recapture inmates, who escaped from custodial centres in the country.

He said, “There is no gainsaying that national security has become topical in recent times due to incessant breaches on security of lives and property by various non-state actors.

“The nation is passing through a nightmare in the hands of bandits, Boko Haram elements, the IPOB and kidnappers which have all worsen the problems of the hitherto known armed robbers, cultists, sex offenders and among others.

“Security institutions unfortunately, have not been spared in the spate of violence, including custodial centres.

“Harden felons that escaped from custody have to be recaptured and those in jail must be secured in order to guarantee societal safety for the economy to thrive.”
