30-day ultimatum: Fulani herdsmen visit Emir of Muri, take oath

The leadership of the herders made the promise after the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Tafida, issued 30 days ultimatum for herders terrorizing the state to vacate the forest or be forced to do so. However, the leadership of the herders comprised of Ardos and Fulani community leaders drawn from 14 out the 16 local government areas of the state visited the emir today at his palace to clarify the issue.

Wike sends anti-open grazing bill, two others to House of Assembly

According to the letter sent to the House, the bill is christened Prohibition of Open Grazing of Livestock and Ranching Administration bill 2021. He said it’s in compliance with the “unanimous prohibition of open rearing of grazing of livestock in southern states of Nigeria by the Southern Governors forum and the resultant needs for the enactment of relevant laws to back up the prohibition on or before the 1st of September 2021”.

FCT Chief Judge appointed NJI’s Administrator

The Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Justice Salisu Garba has been appointed the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI). Justice Garba, from Katsina State, who ordinarily was due for retirement by October 10 this year, replaces Justice Rosaline Patricia Irorefe Bozimo (retired Chief Judge of Delta State), whose tenure expired on July, 31, 2021.

Defection: Reps Seek To Prohibit President, Vice President, Governor, Deputy Governor

The House of Representatives on resumption from its two-month recess is expected to commence debate on the general principles of a bill which seeks to prohibit defection of President and Vice President, Governor and Deputy Governor from the party through which they were elected into office. The private member bill sponsored by Hon. Kwewum Shawulu seeks to alter Sections 144(10) and 189(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) with a view to check incidents of defections, that is cross carpetings, or abandoning the political party that sponsored a President, Vice President, Governor or Deputy Governor (as the case may be) for another political party, in the absence of a merger of political parties; division or factions within the sponsoring political party.

APC, PDP sink deeper into crises ahead of 2023 elections

Last week at the Supreme Court, the minority judgment in the Eyitayo Jegede (PDP) versus Rotimi Akeredolu (APC) Ondo State governorship appeal opened the APC crisis. Three justices, led by Justice Mary Odili, submitted that it is illegal for a sitting governor to hold another office simultaneously, citing Section 180 of the 1999 Constitution. Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni is the APC Caretaker national chairman.

Hushpuppi: Police begin Kyari probe

The commencement of the investigation followed the Police Service Commission’s (PSC ) approval of a four-man special committee set up by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali to review the allegations against Kyari by the United States Government. PSC also approved Alkali’s recommendation for the suspension of the DCP pending the outcome of the probe. The suspension commenced on Saturday.
