A lady has sustained first-degree burns after fire gutted a residential building on Ikemo Street, Ojo, Lagos State.City Round gathered that the victim sustained the injuries after a camp gas she used while cooking in the passageway ignited a fire.
According to video clips made available to our correspondent, the woman had severe burns across her arms and shoulders.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, noted that the quick response of firefighters prevented an explosion from happening.
The statement read, “The fire started in a bungalow consisting of 32 single rooms of various sizes which was ignited through the use of camp gas for cooking at the passage.“The ensuing inferno was, however, subdued before it could spread beyond the compound as it affected 14 of the rooms while 18 rooms were saved and adjoining property.
“Furthermore, it was revealed through an investigation that the passage is regularly used as a kitchen with over 15 camp gas, invariably aiding the velocity of the spread of the fire.”
“The victim, a female adult who ignited the fire, suffered first-degree burns but she is in stable condition and has been taken to a nearby hospital.
”In a related incident, two drivers were rescued from a tanker accident on Friday at Mangoro, Agege, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
City Round gathered that the accident involved a tanker carrying vegetable oil and a minibus, close to the Forte Oil Filling Station.In a video seen by our correspondent, the tanker was being sprayed with water by firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
