US Court to Rule on Atiku Abubakar’s Suit Against Bola Tinubu over Educational Qualifications

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has scheduled a hearing for the case involving presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, set to take place tomorrow.

Atiku Abubakar filed a lawsuit in the US court, requesting that Chicago State University (CSU) release all of Tinubu’s academic records due to alleged irregularities in the certificate Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku believes that these documents will help clarify inconsistencies in Tinubu’s background.

CSU agreed to release Tinubu’s credentials upon the court’s order. The university requested that the court specify the demands it seeks in the case.

Judge Jeffrey Gilbert directed Tinubu to provide an explanation by August 23rd regarding the potential release of his academic records to Atiku. On August 23rd, Tinubu’s attorney submitted a statement asking CSU not to release his academic credentials.

The US court has set the hearing for Tuesday, September 12, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 1386. CSU has been instructed to file any objections to the scope of Atiku’s subpoenas for documents and depositions by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023.

This case revolves around the release of Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku Abubakar, and the court’s decision could have implications for the upcoming Nigerian presidential election.
