According to the Abia State government, only one Abia State University ABSU student is reportedly with the abductors who attacked a group of students in Okigwe, Imo state, on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued this morning by the state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, security personnel are currently working to ensure the student’s safety.
“On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, a Sienna vehicle carrying passengers, including Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) students, was assaulted around Okigwe in Imo State, along with two other private cars, by hoodlums who have yet to be named.

“According to information obtained from the university and one of the students who fled from the abductors, only one student remains in the custody of the hoodlums.
“Law enforcement officials from both Abia and Imo States have been deployed to save the student and all others who are currently in the custody of the kidnappers.”
“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is closely overseeing efforts to ensure the student’s and others’ safe return as soon as possible.
The Governor has also directed security reinforcement along the affected route to avoid potential occurrences,” according to the release.
