The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it seized unregistered/expired aphrodisiacs and other drugs in Kaduna.
The agency made the seizures during a raid on 26 shops at the Sabon Gari market in Zaria LGA on Monday.
The items seized included microgynon (drugs meant to be distributed free to IDPs and oxytocin (injection for women delivered of babies, which required a specific temperature to be stored but were found in the open).
Addressing journalists after the raid, the NAFDAC deputy director in charge of investigation and enforcement in Kaduna, Tamanuwa Andrew, said, “The seized aphrodisiacs were found to contain up to 200 strength milligrams which were more than 100mg that the agency registered.”
Mr Andrew explained that one of NAFDAC’s strategies to reduce or minimise the menace of substandard and falsified products was continuous mop-up from circulation.
