Many Injured As Gunmen Abduct Church Goers In Anambra

NNEWI – It was confusion in Nno­bi, Anambra State, on Sunday when hood­lums suspected to be gunmen stormed the town and abducted some church goers in the area.

The gunmen, ac­cording to eyewitness, double-crossed the bus conveying victims who were heading towards E-Dey Work Adorota­tion Centre, near Nne­wi, at Eziehulu end of the road and ordered the men in the bus to enter their (gunmen vehicle) at gunpoint.

The vicious, stern-looking gun-wield­ing men, pushed, kicked the men into their Si­enna car and drove off dangerously.

The incident led to people running hel­ter-skater for their lives sustaining injuries of various degrees as there was stampede at the Afor Nnobi Market which is located close to the scene of the in­cident.

The incident which occurred at 8.30 a.m. disrupted worship ac­tivities in the church­es located within the scene of the incident which included House of Pinnacle, Grace of God and St. Paul Cath­olic Church, Umuru Nnobi, and the Cathe­dral Church of St. Mary Nnewi.

It also caused traffic jam while the Nnewi, Nnobi roads, and Amu­ko Nnewi –Nnobi oads were later deserted by vehicles fearing the gunmen might have taken any of the routes leading to Nnewi.

The exact number of men abducted could not be ascertained at press time but other sourc­es said about five men were whisked away by the bad guys.

The PPRO, Anambra State Police Command said Police would in­vestigate the incident adding that he had just heard about it at the time Daily Independent contacted him.
