Depots across Nigeria are running dry, leading to a severe shortage of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and causing long queues at filling stations in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Ogun. This shortage has fueled a price hike, with black market sellers charging as much as N1,500 per liter in some areas.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) attributed the supply constraints to delays in vessel discharge operations. The company assured the public that it is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal fuel distribution.
However, despite the NNPC’s statement, the situation worsened over the weekend. Checks revealed empty depots in Apapa and persistent fuel queues nationwide. Oil marketers also confirmed difficulties in obtaining petrol supplies.
As the crisis deepens, concerns grow over the potential for further price increases and disruptions to economic activities.
