The tragic death of a four-year-old boy in a canal on his way back from church has left the family of Daniel Oyedokun grieving.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Awori Street, Dopemu, Agege in Lagos State, during heavy rainfall.
Daniel was swept away by the flood, and his body was found in a gutter along the same street.
His father, Olabode Oyedokun, recounted the chain of events that led to the heartbreaking loss. He explained that due to his illness, he couldn’t accompany Daniel to church, so the boy went with a neighbor and a group of children. Tragically, while crossing the canal, Daniel slipped and fell into the water
Olabode expressed his grief and also blamed the church for allowing the children to leave the premises in such hazardous weather conditions. He emphasized the need for better safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the boy’s tragic death and expressed condolences to the family. He urged parents to be vigilant, especially with children living near water channels, to prevent such unfortunate occurrences
