The Borno State House of Assembly has authorized Umar Usman Kadafur, the state’s deputy governor, to serve as acting governor while Governor Umara Zulum takes a 21-day vacation.
Kadafur was to serve as acting governor from April 29 to May 19, 2021, according to the consent, which was transmitted by Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan in a letter dated April 26, 2021.
Governor Babagana Zulum wrote to the Assembly on April 23, 2021, requesting permission to take a 21-day leave.
“The governor also requested that in compliance with provisions of Section 190 (1) of the constitution, which made him notify the House, the Assembly should approve the deputy governor to serve as acting governor throughout the 21 days, to constitutionally give him the full powers to handle Borno State’s affairs without resort to the governor,” Malam Isa Gusau, Zulum’s spokesman noted in a statement yesterday.
Gusau said all government officials and institutions were directed to fully comply with the ‘transmission of power.’
However, the statement did not specify the reason for the governor’s leave.
