The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) has appointed a new Chairman.
Mr Olatunde Busari, SAN is succeeded by Chief J. Akingbola Akinola, C.Arb.
Chief Gbola Akinola is an experienced arbitrator and practicing lawyer.
He is a partner at The Law Union and has considerable expertise in corporate and business law. He is also a professionally experienced lawyer with extensive commercial legal consulting experience.
Chief Gbola Akinola is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of both the Institute’s Panel of Chartered Arbitrators and the Kigali International Arbitration Center’s Panel of International Arbitrators, both in Kigali, Rwanda.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of LACIAC and a Past President of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN).
Chief Akinola was elected at the Institute’s inaugural meeting of the 2021-2022 Executive Committee, which took place on Thursday, April 22nd, 2021.
Mrs. Olusola Adegbonmire, C.Arb is the first Vice Chairman; Prof Paul Idornigie, SAN, C.Arb is the second Vice Chairman; Mrs. Obosa Akpata, C.Arb is the third Vice Chairman; and Mrs. Josephine Akinwunmi, FCIArb is the Secretary.
Mr. Akin Omisade, FCIArb, Treasurer, Dr. Adeyemi Agbelusi, FCIArb P.R.O, Mr. Ibifubara Berenibara, FCIArb Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Seyilayo Ojo, C.Arb Chairman Training Committee, Mrs. Obosa Akpata, C.Arb Chairman Membership Committee, Mr. Olumide Sofowora, SAN, C.
In a statement to the media, the new PRO, Dr. Adeyemi Agbelusi, quoted the new Chairman as saying, “The Institute under his leadership will improve our training programmes so that it will concentrate more on impacting expertise and the skills required for fruitful employment in the field of alternative conflict resolution,” according to Chief Akinola.
Chief Akinola also vowed that the new executive would resolve some of the issues that have been hindering the optimization of the benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Nigeria, as well as working with other stakeholders to ensure the development of Arbitration in the country.
