At least four motorists were shot during the gunmen attack in the Orji neighborhood of Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
On Sunday evening, the incident occurred, sending residents and passers-by fleeing for cover.
One of the victims was driving an unmarked surveillance car when the gunmen double-crossed him and shot him in the left shoulder before targeting other cars, including commercial drivers.
The robbers fired sporadically in the air, scaring both residents and police officers at the Orji Divisional Headquarters, along Okigwe lane, according to eyewitnesses.
According to reports, over five commercial and private cars were robbed and their valuables taken.
The patients have been admitted to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, where they are currently undergoing care, according to Orlando Ikeokwu, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer.
There have been no fatalities as of the time of filing this article.
