Nine people were killed in an accident at Ekpon Junction on the Agbor-Ewohimi Road in Edo State’s Igueben Local Government Area.
The victims were on their way to a wedding ceremony before the crash, according to Henry Benemesia, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo Command, who confirmed the incident to newsmen.
“The deceaseds were riding in a bus from Benin to Ewatto, Edo, for the wedding of an unidentified friend or relative.
“Unfortunately, their vehicle collided with an articulated truck carrying cement bags on the way to the southeast.
“Five people died on the scene, and others died while being transported to the hospital.
“The victims’ bodies have been placed at an unidentified hospital in Edo’s mortuary,” he added.
He did say, however, that one of the casualties, a 15-year-old boy, was being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
