The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Nigeria), Lagos Branch, in collaboration with the Foundation for Resilient Empowerment and Development (FRED) celebrates with great women all over the globe, on the occasion of the Annual International Women’s Day.

This year’s programme was a huge success, as indicated by the massive turnout of participants.

The Chairperson of FIDA (Nigeria) Lagos Branch, Mrs. Chinwe Efobi gave the opening remarks at the programme, which was anchored by the Head, Project Committee of FIDA, Mrs. Nnenna Nwaokobia.

Our erudite speakers, Mrs. Titilola Akinlawon, SAN and Mrs. Abiola Laseinde delivered well-articulated and educative lectures.

In summary, the Theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” #EmbraceEquity’ is the commitment and involvement of women and girls in technology (IT).Tech knowledge should not be gender-sensitive, neither should it be determined by the degree one acquires. Women, whatever their educational level, should equip themselves with Tech Knowledge.

As in every other area of endeavour in the world, Technology literacy has its merits and demerits. Some of the merits include:

  1. Tech knowledge breaks the financial dependence of women on men.
  2. With Technology, you can advertise any kind of business and earn from the comfort of your home.
  3. Financial independence will bridge the gap between women and men. Embracing Equality is to Embrace change.

Our focus should be on the advantages. However, it is advised, that we supervise the use of technology by our children, especially our girls, to minimize the disadvantages of Tech knowledge.

In conclusion, the desire to acquire Tech knowledge should not be limited by our disciplines. We should use it to liberate ourselves financially. This will bridge the wide gap between the genders. We should have an open mind to learn and relearn, knowing fully well that ” If it’s going to be, it’s upon me.”
