Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted three suspected arms couriers in Zamfara State attempting to smuggle live ammunition to bandits in the state.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday by the Agency during a stop and search operation in the Tsafe Local Government Area of the State.
NDLEA identified the suspects as Adamu Tijani, 35, Yunusa Yakubu, 17, and Tijani Ismail, 40.
Reports by Daily Post reveal that a NDLEA official, who was part of the operation informed that the suspects were found with 80 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition discovered in a ‘bagco’ sac behind the driver’s seat.
NDLEA stated that one of the suspects, Tijani, who is the driver of the vehicle, confessed that the sac was given to him by unamed Nigerian soldier at Ilelah border, Sokoto State while returning from Niger Republic.
Tijani said he was to deliver the sac, which the soldier told him contained broken tiles, at Ankpa, Kogi State to either one Chazzy Baba or Baba Kata.
“The other two suspects are motor boys to Adamu Tijani,” the NDLEA official said, adding that the suspects will be transferred to Department of State Services, DSS, for further investigation.
