One of the highlights of the well-attended meeting of the Surulere Lawyers Forum (SLF) on May 18, 2022 was the induction of the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Welfare Committee, Y. C. Maikyau, SAN as a Member and Elder of the Forum.
It was yet another feather in the illustrious cap of the learned silk, whose arrival along with his entourage was greeted with enthusiastic welcome from the capacity crowd that graced the meeting.
With his characteristic charisma, Maikyau engaged the members in a frank, no-holds barred discourse on the profile and fortunes of the Forum, the Bar, and the Nigerian nation in general. Members were impressed, even delighted, with the eloquence with which the Senior Advocate of Nigeria articulated his vision and expectations for these respective entities. Maikyau praised the leadership of the Forum on their remarkable feat of effectively galvanizing members in pursuit of its objectives – in particular its quest to become a full-fledged Branch of the NBA. The learned silk also extolled the virtues of the SLF as one with a reputation for upholding the core values of the legal profession, one of which was integrity, which he described as the hallmark of a lawyer and the foundation upon which a successful law practice, Association or Forum is built.
In their respective remarks, the leadership of the Forum expressed gratitude to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria for his strides so far and wished him greater success in his endeavours.
