Wike Inaugurates FCTA Secretaries Including Charles Elechi for Key Portfolios

“Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has administered the oath of office to Charles Elechi and several others who have been appointed as secretaries for different crucial portfolios within the administration.

In his address, Wike emphasized the need for the newly appointed secretaries to execute their responsibilities with a strong sense of urgency, dedication, and selflessness.

Charles Elechi, a legal practitioner, assumed the position of Secretary of Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership. Prior to this role, Elechi held significant positions, including two-term Commissioner for Agriculture and Transport in Abia State. He also served as a Special Adviser to a former governor of the state in 2015.

Among the other appointees inaugurated were Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe for the Health and Environmental Services secretariat, Uboku Nyah for the Transportation secretariat, Salman Dako for the Legal Services secretariat, and Bitrus Garki for the Area Council Services secretariat, among others.”

In his address during the inauguration, Minister Nyesom Wike appealed to the recently sworn-in secretaries, urging them to exhibit unwavering diligence and commitment in the execution of their duties. He emphasized the necessity to align their efforts with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of propelling the FCT into a world-class Capital Territory through an accelerated development and transformation agenda.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place in Abuja on Thursday night, saw the official swearing-in of the secretaries. A statement released by Dr. Nnachi Okafor, the Head of Information for the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership Secretariat under the FCTA, confirmed the event.”

The statement quoted Wike as saying, “Today, we mark the beginning of a new chapter, one that demands dedication, diligence, and a steadfast commitment to service. It is my privilege to serve as FCT Minister, and to work with you as we embark on a mission of rebuilding and developing the FCT into a world-class Capital Territory. This task has been entrusted to us by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and it comes at a time when our beloved capital city is in need of renewal.

“There are various problems affecting the development of the FCT, and I urge the Secretaries to remain focused in addressing issues of revenue generation, environmental sanitation and public health, infrastructure development, security challenges, education, agriculture and food security as well as satellite towns development.“Public transportation is a major challenge we must address comprehensively. No modern city can function effectively and efficiently without a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system. We are committed to establishing an integrated and efficient transport network that meets the needs of our residents”.

He further called for transparency and accountability in their revenue generation and procurement processes in order to shore up the Internally Generated Revenue status of the FCT, thus blocking all leakages in the system. He added, “A significant aspect of our mission will be the enhancement of our Internally Generated Revenue profile.

We must explore the necessary ways to raise the necessary funds to support our development agenda. This is crucial to finance the ambitious projects and initiatives we have planned.”
