MTN Nigeria, one of Nigeria’s largest telecommunications companies, has explained why its subscribers are experiencing poor internet speed.

The company gave the explanation in a statement on Thursday evening.Several MTN subscribers had taken to social media on Thursday to complain about their poor internet connectivity.MTN blamed the bad service on a damage to its international undersea cables across East & West Africa. It added that the repair process to resolve the situation is ongoing.“We apologise for the challenges you may be experiencing with internet speed and accessing data services at the moment,” the company said.“This is as a result of a damage to international undersea cables across East & West Africa.

“The repair process is ongoing to resolve the situation as soon as possible. Please look out for further updates.”The latest service disruption is MTN’s second high-profile outage in two weeks. On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, MTN subscribers were subjected to an outage that prevented them from making calls and using the internet for more than five hours.

In a related development, Nigerian subscribers on other networks such as Airtel and Tizeti have also complained of poor internet on Thursday.Tizeti apologised to its customers in an email, blaming its internet outage on one of its upstream providers.“We regret to inform you that we are currently experiencing a service disruption due to an outage from one of our upstream providers,” the email reads.

“This outage is affecting our ability to deliver the level of service you expect from us, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.“The outage from our upstream provider has impacted our systems, leading to temporary interruptions in our services.“Our team is actively working to mitigate the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible. However, at this time, we do not have an estimated time for resolution.”
