Exactly 4 years ago today ,11th DAY OF MARCH 2020 ,the United Nations declared COVID 19 a global Pandemic and it undoubtedly was the biggest story in our world between the years 2019 and 2021, it would be an understatement to say that the plague took the global village by storm. While millions died in every corner of the globe in the face of a virus for which there was no known cure, the pandemic drove the economies of even the most advanced nations to their knees, no thanks to the crippling lockdowns that it necessitated.
A Nigerian Author and Barrister at Law . Adejoke Layi-Babatunde, a Nigerian author, has just released a book that aims to remind the world of what transpired during the days of the Covid 19 pandemic, and to impart the life lessons the pandemic elicited (or should elicit) in it’s survivors.
Beyond its physical and economic impact, however, the pandemic also laid bare an inconvenient truth, namely, that even in the 21st century and with all of our sophistication and technological advances, we were ill-prepared for it, and abject in our helplessness in the face of its ravages.
For that reason, many mistakes were made, not least by policymakers. But vital lessons were also learned – most notably by the author, who hopes that humanity does not forget in a hurry, not just how we underwent, but also how we overcame.
The bottom line of *Whispers of Resilience* , essentially, is that health is indeed wealth, and that preparation is key to success in combating a crisis such as COVID 19. Another lesson the reader will readily draw from this book is that politics must never be allowed to override our common purpose or goals.
This book advises its readers to invest in their own health. It also urges the authorities to be more intentional in investing and promoting policy in the healthcare system in terms of infrastructure, research, and the development of human capacity.
Individuals and families are also admonished to invest in family and relationships, as well as in financial literacy, and to seek a proper work-life balance – because at the day, life is both short and fragile.
Though a humbling experience, Covid 19 also showed the resilience, dedication and courage of human nature, which, like the proverbial phoenix, always rises again – even after an apocalyptic event such as Covid. The darkest of nights can indeed turn into the brightest of days.
Needless to say, the potpourri of experiences during the pandemic have changed the world irrevocably. But it is the author’s hope that the lessons of resilience learnt during those momentous times continue to be a touchstone to us all, and inspire us to live fully, mindfully and brilliantly .
