President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate intensification of search and rescue efforts for those involved in the helicopter crash that occurred near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday.
The helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation and registered as 5NBQG, was en route to an NNPC Limited facility, FPSO—NUIMS ANTAN, carrying contract staff.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu called on military personnel stationed in the region to support ongoing rescue efforts and collaborate with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies.
The President expressed his condolences to the Board and staff of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and extended sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash. He prayed for the departed souls, asking for eternal rest for them and comfort for their loved ones.
