Chairmen of three local government areas in Osun State have laid the 2026 estimates of their councils before their councillors.
The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hassan Okanlawon, presented the N6.8bn budget proposal to the legislators, according to a statement shared with our correspondent on Friday.
The Egbedore Local Government budget proposal was laid before the legislative house by the Chairman of the council, Hissa Akinwale, at the premises of the LGA in Awo.
Presenting the financial document at the local government secretariat in Ikirun, Okanlawon described the budget as a strategic framework designed to accelerate socio-economic growth and improve the living standards of residents across the local government.
The chairman said, “The N6.84bn budget prioritizes key sectors critical to grassroots development, including infrastructure development, health services, education, agriculture, social services and empowerment programs.”
He emphasised that the allocations were carefully structured to address both immediate community needs and long-term developmental goals.
Meanwhile, Akinwale, while presenting the bill christened ‘Budget for Sustainable Development,’ said the LG planned to spend N6.2bn in the 2026 fiscal year.
Akinwale listed infrastructural development, potable water, primary health care, environmental sanitation, educational assistance, youth empowerment, agriculture, security, among others, as the core targets of the estimates.
He also said his administration would accord the welfare of local government staff special priority, adding that aside from prompt payment of salaries and other entitled benefits, training and re-training of staff would be given adequate attention.
“The distinguished Leader of the Council and other honorable Members, let me make it clear that in arriving at the size of the 2026 Budget of 6.2 billion naira, adequate planning and necessary consultations were made to ensure that the Budget is implementable and of immense benefit to our people.
“On this note, I humbly present the year 2026 Budget of six billion, two hundred million, and five hundred thousand naira (N6,200,500,000) for constructive scrutiny, timely consideration, and approval,” he said.
Similarly, the chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Adegoke Ogunsola, presented a sum of N5.8bn budget estimates for the year 2026 before the legislative house of the council.
According to a statement shared with our correspondent on Saturday, Ogunsola, at the presentation of the estimates in Ilobu, explained that the proposal would be financed through monthly statutory revenue allocations from the Federal Allocation Account and internally generated revenue from taxable people and rates.
Ogunsola further said, “We have proposed to appropriate ₦5,881,255,200.00 (five billion, eight hundred and eighty-one million, two hundred and fifty-five thousand, two hundred naira) in the next fiscal year, 2026.
“As a government, we have proposed in the budget to execute physical projects and to take care of our recurrent expenditures with transparency and fiscal discipline.”
The LG chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State have presented their 2026 estimates directly to their councillors, in contrast to the Peoples Democratic Party chairmen, elected on February 22, 2025, who appeared before the Osun State House of Assembly to defend their budgets last week.
Those elected on October 15, 2022, who are all from the APC, are currently running council areas in the state and have been laying their proposed budgets before the legislative houses of their respective councils.
