In its enduring commitment to excellence and the institutionalisation of mentorship in the legal profession through its Mentorship, Sponsorship, Reforms, and Advocacy (MSRA) Blueprint, the Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation [JASAN Foundation] has announced the Winners of the #Legacy500
Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship Essay competition which commenced on 9th September 2025.
#TheLegacyDialogue2.0: Charting the course for Mentorship in the Legal Profession
On Friday, 24th October 2025, the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, FCT – Nigeria, hostedr#TheLegacyDialogue2.0 – a convergence of distinguished jurists, academics, and legal practitioners who gathered to deliberate strategically on the theme: “Institutionalisation of Mentorship in the Legal Profession: A Strategic Blueprint for Professional Development.”
#TheLegacyDialogue2.0 reaffirmed the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to advancing mentorship as a sustainable pillar for professional identity formation and professional development in law. Through a keynote address and panel discussion, participants explored strategies for embedding structured mentorship and sponsorship systems within Nigeria’s legal institutions – from the Faculties of Law in the universities, through the Nigerian Law School to the Bar and the Bench.
In alignment with its MSRA Blueprint, the Foundation used the occasion to formally announce the winners of the 2nd edition of the JASAN Foundation #Legacy500 Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship Essay Competition.
A Rigorous and Transparent Selection Process
The JASAN Foundation #Legacy500 Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship Essay Competition was open to 500-level Law students and prospective Nigerian Law School Candidates across Federal and State
Universities in Nigeria, attracting 86 high-quality submissions nationwide; and to ensure merit, transparency, and fairness, the competition was conducted in two distinct phases:
– Phase 1 – Prequalification Screening: Shortlisting 15 outstanding finalists from the original pool of 86 entries.
– Phase 2 – Final Evaluation: Selection of the final 9 exceptional winners.
The distinguished Panel of Judges comprised:
– Prof. John O. Akintayo, PhD.,
– Mr. Kehinde O. Ogunwumiji, OFR, SAN,
– Chief Malik A. Aikhunegbe, SAN,
– Chinua Asuzu, and
– Dr. Anne Uruegi Agi.
Each applicant was individually scored using clear evaluation criteria designed to ensure meritocracy, objectivity, and transparency. Following this rigorous process, nine (9) exceptional winners emerged
as recipients of the 2025/2026 JASAN Foundation #Legacy500 Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship
Awards.
