The Oyo State Police Command has debunked the reported kidnapping of 18 passengers on Thursday morning in the Igboora-Eruwa region of the state.
Ngozi Onadeko, the state Commissioner of Police, denied the claim on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where four alleged kidnappers and 33 other suspects were paraded.
The perpetrators were investigated for a variety of crimes including sodomy, auto theft, and pickpocketing.
According to Onadeko, when the command received word of the abduction, it made efforts to verify its veracity and discovered that nothing of the sort had occurred.
“I would implore people to refrain from spreading unfounded rumors that will cause fear in society.
“Oyo State Command will continue to work hard to ensure the safety of lives and property.
“People should provide us with reliable information that will enable us to stop crime and criminality in the state,” she said.
Onadeko, on the other hand, believes that the parade of offenders will serve as a deterrent to criminals and will help the state minimize crime
