Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State, sacked 20 of his 28 commissioners on Wednesday afternoon.
The declaration did not concern the eight commissioners from the ministries of Health, Youth and Sports, Tourism, Information and Strategy, Woman Affairs, Works, Finance, and Technology.
Two weeks earlier, the governor said that some of his appointees were sabotaging his office.
The dismissal of the 20 commissioners came just one month after the governor reshuffled his cabinet and named new Finance and Health Commissioners.
The sacking caught the affected appointees off guard when there was no indication that the decision would be made.
The affected commissioners were in their offices on Wednesday afternoon when the news broke.
Nwachuku Oguwike, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, acknowledged the development and stated that the governor wished the affected appointee well in their future endeavors.
“The news is correct,” said the governor’s spokesperson.
Twenty commissioners were affected, although eight were not.
The explanation for this is to infuse fresh blood and bring value to the state’s governing system.”
Declan Emelumba, the state Commissioner for Intelligence and Strategy, has announced the dismissal of the 20 commissioners.
Imo State has recently been in the crosshairs when supporters of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra have been accused of attacking state security apparatus, including prisons and police stations.
