A Rivers State based public affair analyst, Dr. Ile Joseph, has expressed worry over what he described as the rising pattern of terrorist assaults and targeted killings aimed at Christians across Nigeria, especially in the North.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt,
Joseph said Nigerians have already endured years of severe insecurity and have been “patient enough” with the Federal Government despite the continued deterioration.
He called for strong, immediate action to address the crisis.
Joseph, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, urged President Bola Tinubu to “rise to the challenge and fulfil his constitutional responsibility of securing the lives and property of Nigerians,” adding that if the President cannot meet that obligation, “he should consider resignation”
He also appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, to urgently organize a National Emergency Conference in response to what he termed an ongoing “genocidal assault”.
He stressed that the Christian community must take a firmer stand in protecting vulnerable groups, fostering peace, and supporting victims of violence through humanitarian efforts.
According to him, national security is the foundation for economic growth, youth development, investor confidence, and unity.
He cautioned that without swift, practical intervention from the government and relevant stakeholders, the country may face consequences that could become “far more catastrophic for the nation.”
Joseph added that no society prospers in an atmosphere of fear and instability, insisting that rebuilding confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions is now both urgent and critical to the nation’s future.
