Tension over plots to violate court order on coronation of Iree king.
There is palpable tension in Iree community, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State over Oba Muritala Oyelakin’s insistence on violating the court order stopping him from holding the proposed coronation ceremony tomorrow.
Justice Micheal Awe, in a restraining order obtained by The Nation on Friday, stopped presentation of Staff of Office to Oyelakin appointed by Osun State Government.
Two kings emerged as the Aree of Iree after Adeleke discountenanced appointment of Oba Ademola Ponnle by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola and appointed Muritala Oyelakin.
Saturday May 3, 2024 was fixed for presentation of certificate, instrument and staff of office to Oba Oyelakin as the Aree of Iree.
However, Justice Awe of State High Court sitting in Ikirun, Osun State in suit number HOS/20/2024 restrained Governor Ademola Adeleke, his government and four traditional chiefs including Oyelakin from going ahead with the ceremony of presentation of Staff of office. He fixed hearing on the matter for Wednesday May 8, 2024.
But Oba Oyelakin, in a video on Honourable FM Facebook handle, insisted the ceremony will hold as planned and implored residents of the community attend.
A security source spoke of plans to cause riot on Saturday.
“I learnt that youths of the town have been mobilised to pelt dignitaries stones during the ceremony,” the source said.
