Tanker explosion: NSEMA confirms 86 lives so far lost

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, has confirmed that 86 persons have lost their lives in the tragic tanker explosion incident that occurred at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area.

The Director-General of NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba Arah, stated that the corpses of the deceased were recovered and buried.

He explained that 80 of the deceased were laid to rest in a mass grave at the Dikko Primary Health Care (PHC) premises

According to him, five bodies were claimed by relatives and taken away for burial in the town, while one person died at the Dikko PHC.

The DG disclosed that the mass burial was conducted by NSEMA in collaboration with the Gurara Local Government Area and a team of brave and kind-hearted volunteers. The burial took place between 5 p.m. and 12 a.m.

“The number of the injured now stands at 55, with one person unfortunately succumbing to their injuries at the Dikko PHC,” he revealed.
