The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the death of a Syrian national who had lived in the state for more than 40 years.
He was found unresponsive in his home at Gawon Nama Zaga Road on Wednesday night.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident, said it happened around 9:30 p.m.
Police spokespersons explained that the Divisional Police Officer received a distress call from a resident, Tukur Registrer, after a 16-year-old boy, Ahmad Aliyu of Gagi area, ran into a nearby mosque to seek help for his employer, identified as Abdulrahman Badenjki.
According to the police, officers immediately went to the house where the man was found unconscious in his room.
“He was rushed to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, where a doctor sadly confirmed him dead,” a police source said.
The police added that the scene was documented and secured for further checks. The body has been taken to the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
A senior officer from the Command said the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department had visited the house.
“The case has been taken over for a thorough and discreet investigation to understand what happened,” Makama wrote.
