The death toll from a shooting at a school in central Sweden has risen to 11, police said on Wednesday.

According to the SVT broadcaster, authorities have yet to confirm the actual number of injured, with police warning that the death toll could rise.

“We do not have a complete picture at this time regarding the number of injured,” police spokesman Fredrik Svedemyr said.

Since we also do not have any information about the injury situation for those being treated in hospital, there is unfortunately a risk that the number will not stop at eleven.”

The shooting took place at around 12:33 pm local time on Tuesday.

The suspected gunman, who opened fire at a Swedish adult education centre, has been found dead in a building.

Much about the case remains unclear, including the motive, as investigators assume that the perpetrator acted alone and that it was not an act of terrorism.

Six people who were injured are still in hospital, Jonas Claesson, director of health services in the region, said earlier at a news conference.
