A suspected cultist, Segun Ogunfunmilayo, has been arrested by operatives from Osun State Police Command for attempting to kill a grocery seller in Ede, Osun State.
Ogunfunmilayo, who allegedly committed the act on March 8, 2025, at about 9:00pm at Bihari/Ishola Area, Ede, had reportedly bought a bottle of energy drink from the victim and promised to transfer the amount to him.
However, when the seller did not see the transfer alert, he approached Ogunfunmilayo and requested that he be paid his money, which got the suspect angry.
Giving further details about the incident in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, acting Police/Public Relations Officer for Osun Command, Adeola Adeoye, said apart from the energy drink the suspect bought, he also took a sum of N400 and promised to transfer a total of N900 to the victim.
The statement said, “On 8th March, 2025 at about 9:00pm, Segun Ogunfunmilayo, went to the complainant’s shop located at Bihari/Ishola area, Ede, Osun State and bought an energy drink at the rate of Five hundred naira (N500), he demanded cash of Four hundred naira (N400) from the complainant so that he could transfer the sum of Nine hundred naira (N900) to him which he obliged.
“When he did not receive credit notification of the sum of Nine hundred naira, (N900) said to have been transferred by the suspect; he went to inform the suspect that he hadn’t received the alert.
“To his surprise, the suspect brought out a cut-to-size pistol from his bag and shot him in his left hand and right arm and took to his heels.”
Adeoye, who said the suspect was later apprehended by the police and some civilian volunteers, added that Ogunfunmilayo under interrogation, admitted being a member of a secret society called Alora.
“On receipt of the report, police swung into action in collaboration with Civilian JTF and trailed the suspect to his hideout, where he was arrested. One cut-to-size pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect as exhibits.
“The suspect who confessed to being a member of the Alora cult group will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation,” Adeoye said.
