Residents of Sebiotimo, along Ijagemo Road in the Ijegun area of Lagos State, were thrown into confusion on Sunday after a 19-year-old woman, Fatimo Agboke, allegedly stabbed her neighbour’s son, Farouk Azeez, to death during a confrontation.

While the spokesperson for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not confirm the circumstances surrounding the altercation, a source, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the incident, claimed that the two had been romantically involved before the altercation on Sunday.

Hundeyin confirmed to our correspondent that the suspect was arrested and taken into custody immediately after the incident.

trouble started when Agboke reportedly got into a fight with the 20-year-old victim.

During the confrontation, our correspondent gathered that she allegedly seized a broken bottle and stabbed Azeez in the neck, resulting in his death.

Attempts to rush the deceased to the hospital for medical attention were abortive as he tragically passed away on the way.

Hundeyin stated, “On September 9, 2024, a complaint was received from the Ijegun area of the state, reported at the Isheri-Oshun Division by a man that a neighbour argued with his son.

“The victim was stabbed with a broken bottle on his neck by Agboke, which caused him grievous bodily harm. He gave up the ghost during an attempt to rush him to a hospital for medical attention.

“The division raced to the scene where the lifeless body of the deceased was seen on the ground, facing up in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his neck. The corpse has been removed and deposited at the Mainland General Hospital in Yaba for autopsy.”

Hundeyin stated that the suspect had been arrested and detained while stating that an investigation was underway to uncover the incident’s circumstances.

Speaking about the incident on Wednesday, a resident claimed that the two had been suspected of having a past affair. The resident noted that on the day of the incident, the deceased provoked the suspect, leading her to pick up a broken bottle and stab Azeez in the neck.

“They were exchanging words. People said they had been intimate before, so that’s why they were arguing. The boy didn’t touch or hit her; she just rushed to grab a bottle and stabbed him. I think she was hurt by what he said.

“What the boy said triggered something in her, so she stabbed him out of anger.”

When our correspondent asked Hundeyin if the command knew what the deceased had said to the suspect that provoked such a violent reaction, he simply replied, “We don’t know.”
