Until his passing, which occurred on November 18, 2023, Sotonye Inyeinengi-Etomi, who was born on January 25, 1957, was the Managing Partner at the law firm of George Etomi & Partners (GEPLAW). The brother of one of Nigeria’s foremost commercial lawyers, George Etomi, who is the Founder and Principal Partner at GEPLAW, he joined the firm upon being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988, after which he rose to the position of Partner. He was instrumental in the establishment of the firm’s branch in the Rivers State capital, where he served as Managing Partner.
A one-time Special Assistant to the former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the late Inyeinengi-Etomi will be remembered for the tremendous body of high-quality work he produced, as well as his professional achievements, both in the law firm and for his role in the formulation of critical policies during his stint in government.
Tributes have flooded various media outlets (as well as social media) since the lawyer’s passing, as family, friends, and associates have been unanimous in drawing a portrait of a beloved and respected boss, mentor, and friend whose impact on the work of the firm, in the legal profession as a whole, and in the lives of those he touched with his generosity will remain indelible through the passage of time.
