Sit-at-home order in South-east now ineffective — Ribadu on security gains under Tinubu

Nigeria’s national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, says the country has witnessed significant improvement in security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He spoke in his presentation on Thursday at the All Progressives Party National Summit in Abuja.

Ribadu, reeling out security achievements of the Tinubu administration, said the Monday sit-at-home in the south-east has lost its steam.

“The South-East: a welcome development is that the sit-at-home orders are becoming increasingly ineffective.

According to him, Nigeria’s security forces have neutralised 13,543 Boko Haram insurgents, with over 11,000 weapons recovered and destroyed in two years

Speaking on the insecurity and instability in the Sahel region, he said most neighbouring countries with Nigeria are on their knees.

“Most of the countries neighbouring us are on their knees because the evil people are threatening literally the entire Sahel of our region.

“Significant gains have been recorded in addressing Nigeria’s complex security landscape,” he stated.

This comes as Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum recently raised alarm over the resurgence of insecurity in the north-east region.

In April 2025, hundreds of people were killed and displaced in Benue and Plateau states in North Central Nigeria.
