The Significance of Ash Wednesday
As Christians mark Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent today, I urge all Christian lawyers to reflect on its significance – penance and the dust from which we were made which the ‘Ash’ symbolizes.
It should not be all about merely marking the day, or the forbearance from something for the next forty days. Ash Wednesday and Lent mean so much more.
Let us reflect on our mortality, and the fact that we are but tenants on earth. None of us holds a freehold and sooner (or later) our time will be up. Let us strive to live right and lead right – that we might die right!
