The Senate on Thursday, confirmed the appointment of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, as a minister.

Udeh’s appointment was approved after he appeared for screening by senators in the Committee of the Whole where he assured of his commitment to serve diligently if sworn into the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

Responding to questions from senators, he said given his strong background in research and academics, years of governance experience, developmental expert, he would add value to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

On the question from Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi Central) on the US President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern, CPC,” Udeh noted that the matter is being handled at the diplomatic level.

He said: “His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is already responding very well to that issue.

“Appointment of ambassadors and mobilising them immediately is crucial, because it is more a matter of diplomacy than law.”

Following the screening, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, put Udeh’s nomination to a voice vote, which was approved unanimously.

“Let me thank Mr President for the nomination of Dr Kingsley Udeh. He appears to be fit and proper to be a minister. He has acquitted himself as a well-bred Nigerian child, acknowledging his parents.

“I hope he will bring his wealth of experience to add value to the federal cabinet and realise the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President,” Akpabio said.

President Tinubu had on Tuesday, through a letter addressed to the Senate President, requested the Red Chamber to screen and approve Udeh’s appointment as a member of the federal cabinet from Enugu State.

The minister designate would replace Mr Uche Nnaji, who recently resigned as the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology following alleged certificate forgery.
