Professor Kharisu Sufyan Chukkol, a prominent law teacher at Ahmadu University (ABU) Zaria, is dead.
Prof Chukkol died late Sunday evening in Abuja, according sources close to the Faculty of Law at ABU.
There are no details regarding the cause of his death as of the time this story was published.
The sources say he would be buried today (Monday) in Abuja by 1pm.
Chukkol authored a number of law book, especially in the area of Criminal Law, one of which is The law of crimes in Nigeria.
Prof Chukkol served as Dean, Faulty of Law, ABU from 1989 to 1990 and also from 1997 to 2001, according to the Faculty’s page on the university’s website.
A number of students who were taught by the late professor have been expressing their condolences over his death.
The National Security Adviser to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu wrote about the late professor on his Facebook page thus: “I’m saddened by the news of the passing of my teacher and mentor, the erudite Professor of Criminal Law at ABU, Prof Kharisu Chukkol.
“Prof Chukkol was an impactful lecturer who shaped our youthful years as young students. When I returned to ABU later in my career he also supervised my LLM dissertation.
May Allah repose his soul, amen.”
On Facebook, A.B.U. Zaria Online wrote: “The #Abusite family mourns the death of legendary Prof. K. S. Chukkol. He was an ICON of law and one of the foremost Criminal Law experts in Nigeria who has trained countless number of Professors, Senior Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria etc. He died today in Abuja after a protracted illness.
May Almighty Allah SWT grant him jannatul firdaus, Amin.”
