Professor Edoba Omoregie: An Intellectual Colossus Finding Expression in the Political Space – By Douglas Ogbankwa, Esq.
Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, means different things to different people. An Astute Researcher, who is a stickler for details, Professor OMOREGIE has cut his teeth at the Prestigious Faculty of Law, of the University of Benin, Benin City, where he is a Professor of Constitutional Law. He, indeed is an expert in a concept associated with Federalism called “Subsidiarity”, a concept that expounds the basic elements of Federalism, that dwells on devolution and decentralisation of Powers. Professor Omoregie is to subsidiarity in Nigeria, what K.C. Wheares is to Federalism. It is therefore not surprising that Professor Omoregie is one of the eggheads at the Research Arm of the National Assembly, the National Institute for Legislative Studies, Abuja, where he is currently the Director of Legislative Support Sevices.
Professor Omoregie’s furore into Politics has seen a conflict between conviction and tradition. At the end, Professor Omoregie’s Conviction prevails as he will not succumb to the shenanigans of Politicians or their so called tradition. He will not sing the praise of any one for the sake of it, but he will speak truth to power, as blunt as it can be; there lies the dilemma, most politicians like sycophants and jesters, but Professor Omoregie always come out of every encounter with his head held high and his integrity intact!
