Eleven people, including a pregnant woman, her husband and a ten-year-old girl, were killed by suspected herdsmen in Ruwi village, Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The assailants, reportedly shouting “Allahu Akhbar,” launched the attack on mourners gathered for a funeral on Thursday, exacerbating tensions in the area already fraught with violence.

In a statement by the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, signed by its chairman, Farmasum Fuddang, and nine others, condemned the attack, calling it yet another in a series of targeted assaults against Christians in the area.

BCDC said the attack, which occurred just weeks before the Easter celebrations, was particularly horrific as the victims were mourning the loss of an elderly woman. At least three others were also injured in the assault, with their conditions remaining critical.

The statement added that the assailants who executed the attack spoke in the Fulani dialect, suggesting an ethnic and religious motive behind the violence.

The Vanguard believes the attack is part of a larger pattern of ethnic cleansing, with terrorists seeking to establish a caliphate and targeting Christian communities during key religious observances like Lent.

With the 2025 Easter celebrations approaching, terrorists shouting ‘Allahu Akhbar’ launched a devastating attack on March 27th 2025, in Ruwi village, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, including a pregnant woman and her husband, as well as a ten-year-old girl.

The evening assault followed just weeks after rumors circulated about a planned attack during the ongoing Lent season. Reports indicated that terrorists claiming to fight for “Islam” intended to exploit this sacred month to carry out jihad on the Plateau and surrounding regions for land grabbing purposes.

Disturbingly, the group worried that despite the presence of soldiers from Operation Safe Haven, stationed just 500 meters from Ruwi, the attackers faced no resistance,  Saying the soldiers reportedly failed to respond to the sound of gunfire and the pleas for help from the defenseless villagers, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of security forces in the the local government.

BCDC Vanguard leaders called for a united response from political, religious, and community leaders to condemn the violence and ensure the protection of vulnerable communities.

The Vanguard stresses that security agencies must adopt a more proactive approach rather than continuing their current reactive stance, which has only deepened the sense of insecurity and helplessness among residents.

The cultural group further urges the government to fulfill its constitutional duty to protect citizens and ensure that justice is served for the victims.

As Bokkos continues to endure such relentless attacks, the BCDC calls on the people of the area to remain vigilant and strengthen local security measures to safeguard their communities from further violence.
