Edo State Police Command has assured residents that it is working tirelessly to secure the release of a kidnapped couple whose distress videos have been circulating on social media.
The victims, reported to be from Aviele in Etsako West Local Government Area, were shown in multiple videos pleading for public assistance after their abductors allegedly demanded a ransom of N50 million.
In one of the clips now spreading widely online, the kidnappers were seen issuing threats, including harming the pregnant wife if the money was not provided.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the command, Moses Yamu, said in a statement on Friday that police operatives had launched a full-scale investigation and activated rescue efforts immediately the matter was brought to their attention.
According to him, anyone found to have any involvement in the attack would be arrested and prosecuted.
“The attention of the Edo State Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media alleging the kidnapping of a couple in Aviele, Edo North,” the statement read.
“Upon receiving the information, all necessary operational and investigative measures were immediately activated to ensure the victims’ safe rescue and to apprehend those responsible.
“The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a comprehensive investigation, and all individuals found to be complicit, whether directly or indirectly, will be arrested and prosecuted in line with existing laws.”
Yamu urged residents to remain calm and continue providing reliable information that could aid ongoing investigations.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that further updates would be released as developments unfold.
