Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his stolen vehicle in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement released in Uyo on Saturday.
She said the victim was kidnapped and taken to an unknown location along Okop Eto Road. Acting on intelligence, operatives trailed and overpowered the kidnappers in a gun duel, leading to the victim’s rescue.
The statement partly reads: “On February 13, 2025, a report was received that a man (name withheld) had been kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown location.
“Operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence, immediately swung into action and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.
“The hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower, fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed. The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered, and he has since been reunited with his family.”
The Command’s spokesperson noted that a Lexus RX 350 SUV, ash in colour, was recovered. She added that efforts have been intensified to track the fleeing suspects, recover the weapons used in the crime, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers for their bravery and assured residents that the command remains resolute in its fight against criminal elements in the state.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
