Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have uncovered a car theft syndicate that specialises in stealing vehicles directly from owners’ compounds within the Akure metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command recovered a stolen Toyota ‘Muscle’ Camry and arrested a suspect who allegedly bought the vehicle.

According to him, a report was filed on July 18, 2025, by Bolanle Akomolafe, who reported that unknown persons had unlawfully entered her apartment at the Osi axis of Akure North Local Government Area.

The suspects allegedly stole the key to her golden-coloured 2010 Toyota Camry and drove off with the unregistered vehicle alongside other valuables.

Ayanlade stated that the car was later recovered after it had been repainted from golden to blue and hidden in the apartment of one Micheal Olamilekan.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he bought the vehicle from one Adewumi (surname unknown), now at large, at the rate of N4 million, despite the vehicle having been previously purchased by the rightful owner on December 26, 2024, at the rate of N10 million,” said the police spokesman.
