The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for an alleged case of defilement and child abuse involving a nine-year-old girl in the Nayi-Nawa area of Damaturu metropolis.

The command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated in a release that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect had lured the victim several times into a shop within the timber shed area of Damaturu.

“The victim was rescued and taken for a medical examination, while the suspect is in custody.
“Investigation is ongoing and will be transferred to the Gender Unit at the State CID for further action and prosecution,” the command said.

The police command also disclosed that its operatives had arrested two suspects in connection with robbery and fraud in Damaturu and Bade local government areas.

It added that the suspects had confessed to the crimes and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the command noted with dismay the rising incidents of grievous harm and injuries resulting from youth clashes in some communities, largely linked to farmer–herder disputes, drug abuse, and other related social vices.

“The Command is intensifying surveillance and proactive policing to address these emerging challenges,” it said.
