Yobe State Police Command said its operatives from Fika Divisional Headquarters arrested a 22-year-old suspect allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

The command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, the suspect lured the survivor to his farm under the pretext of offering assistance with a promise of reward, but instead took advantage of the situation and raped her.

“On September 13, 2025 at about 0700hrs, following a distress call from the guardian of an 11-year-old female survivor from Maiduwa Village, Fika LGA, operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters promptly apprehended one Ishiaku Bukar, 22 years, of the same address,” the Command added.

It said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

“Investigation is ongoing, while medical evaluation and treatment of the survivor have commenced,” the Command said.

The Command, however, expressed worry over the increase in the reported cases of harassment and abuse against women and children engaged as farm labourers, hence warned that anyone found perpetrating such heinous acts will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.

The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, reacting to the incident, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report all suspicious persons who take advantage of farming activities to harass or abuse women and children.

“Say no to rape, protect women and children,” he said.
