Men of the Ogun State Police on Saturday intercepted a group of 20 individuals in possession of dangerous weapons, including daggers, knives, cutlasses and suspected charms.
The suspects of unknown origin were seen alighting from a truck near the Ogun-Oyo boundary.
The police officers, led by the Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, were on a weekend patrol along Eledumare, Bamboo 1 & 2, Fidiwo 1 & 2, Foursquare, Alapako, and Onigari, all within Ogun State and bordering Oyo State, when they sighted the group.
According to a statement made available to DAILY POST by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the Commissioner, on noticing the group without a clear destination, ordered a search of their belongings, leading to the recovery of the weapons.
Odutola stated, “The Ogun State Police Command, headed by Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has intercepted a group of twenty young individuals of unknown origin who were seen alighting from a truck near the Ogun-Oyo boundary.
“CP Ogunlowo, on observing the group without a clear destination or satisfactory explanation for their movement, ordered a search of their persons and belongings, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons, including daggers, knives, cutlasses, and suspected charms.”
She added that the Commissioner ordered the suspects to be detained immediately after the finding and that further investigations should be conducted.
“Following this discovery, the Commissioner of Police directed the immediate detention of the individuals and ordered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to conduct thorough profiling.
“He further instructed that anyone found culpable should be swiftly charged in court to ensure justice is served.”
In addition to restating his dedication to proactive policing and community involvement, the police boss assured residents of the state that the Command would keep stepping up its efforts to prevent crime, gather intelligence, and respond quickly to law enforcement requests.
Meanwhile, he urged members of the public to be on guard and notify the closest police unit of any suspicious movements or actions for timely intervention.
