The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the neutralization of two bandits and the recovery of an AK-49 assault rifle during a tactical operation.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with special hunters, was aimed at bolstering security in the Gwana district and surrounding border regions of Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe states.
The Police Public Relations Officer,Ahmed Wakil, provided details in a press release on Wednesday, revealing that the operation took place on Tuesday.
The Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters had initiated the coordinated tactical operation after gathering credible intelligence and leveraging community networks.
According to Wakil, the operation, which involved surveillance activities in the Dajin Madan Forest, resulted in an encounter with suspected bandits.
During the engagement, two bandits were neutralised, and additional assailants, who sustained injuries, reportedly fled into nearby bushes.
“This proactive engagement neutralised two bandits, with reports indicating that additional assailants sustained injuries, scampered in disarray, and retreated into nearby bushes,” Wakil stated.
The operation also led to the recovery of one AK-49 assault rifle and nine rounds of live ammunition.
The police force reiterated its commitment to combating banditry and enhancing public safety across the state.
“The Nigeria Police Force is steadfast in its mission to collaborate with community stakeholders, thereby ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property while holding accountable those involved in criminal activities,” Wakil said.
He also urged the public to continue supporting the police in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
