The Edo State Police Command, on Wednesday, said its operatives have neutralized six suspected kidnappers during a gun battle.

The State Police Command spokesman, ASP Kontongs Bello, in a statement, on Wednesday, said the suspected kidnappers had intercepted an 18-seater bus travelling from Lagos to the Eastern part of the country along the Lagos-Benin by-pass.

According to him, the kidnappers were moving the victims into the forest when they encountered the police and engaged them in a gun battle, adding that the kidnappers died from the injuries sustained during the gun battle.

He said the deceased were believed to be part of the notorious gang terrorising Benin/Lagos expressway and environs.

According to him, the passengers were rescued unhurt, while bush combing was ongoing to arrest other fleeing gang members, adding that one pump action gun was recovered from the scene.
