Police detain man for alleged theft

A man simply identified as Jonathan Onu is now in police custody for allegedly stealing motorcycle tyres worth N300,000 from the Trade Fair Market in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State.

the incident occurred at about 7.35pm on March 2.A police source told our correspondent that the suspect stole 20 pieces of motorcycle tyres from the market.“A chief security officer in the Trade Fair complex said Onu, a security man working in the complex, carted away 20 pieces of motorcycle tyres from a cargo company valued at N300,000,” the police source said

A trader, who pleaded anonymity, claimed that the suspect had a history of stealing from the market.

“He is fond of stealing, and this is not the first time he has done this. He was not just lucky this time around, and it is not fair that someone would steal in this economy,” the trader said.When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to our correspondent

Hundeyin said the stolen items had been recovered, adding that the suspect would be charged in court after the conclusion of an investigation into the matter.He said, “The items have been recovered at the station, and the suspect will be charged in court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
