The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered one foreign-made pistol, three live ammunition, and a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen.
In a statement released on Thursday, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects who had confessed to be members of a secret cult during interrogation were arrested on Thursday by 1:45 pm by police operatives attached to Otolo-Nnewi.
Ikenga said their arrest demonstrated the command’s commitment to fostering a secure environment for meaningful work and businesses to thrive in the state.
He said, “The Anambra State Police Command has continued to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring public safety and nipping all forms of criminal activities in the bud in the state.
“In line with the above, Police operatives attached to Otolo-Nnewi today, May 1, 2025, by 1.45 pm arrested two suspects and recovered one foreign-made pistol, three live ammunitions and a lady’s motorcycle suspected to have been stolen.
“The suspects: Ani Obinna, aged 21 years old, and Okwudili Ezike, aged 43 years old, both males, were arrested during a hot chase by the police operatives acting on credible information, which led to the busting of a criminal hideout in Nnewi.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a secret cult and a kidnapping gang. They also gave useful information that the Operatives are currently working on aimed at dislodging their criminal network and arresting of other gang members.”
He added that the Command has sustained a security patrol in the area and is more committed to fostering a secure environment for meaningful work and businesses to thrive in the state.
“The situation is being closely monitored, and further developments would be communicated accordingly,” he added.
