The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two unidentified individuals found with human body parts.

The Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, revealed this on Thursday during a press briefing in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to Ifeanyi, the suspects were apprehended on October 22 in Okpokwu Local Government Area by the Benue State Civil Protection Guard and later handed over to the police.

The CP said, “The suspects were arrested for being in possession of a human head, lap, and heart,” adding that they have been charged to court following investigation.

Providing further updates, Ifeanyi noted that between mid-September and the end of October, the Command arrested 181 suspects linked to various crimes including armed robbery, cultism, banditry, culpable homicide, and unlawful possession of firearms.

He explained that during the same period, 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robberies, four kidnappings, 16 banditry or terrorism-related incidents, and three cult-related cases were recorded across the state.

Recovered items included 15 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, and three stolen vehicles, while 23 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.

“Sustained clearance operations and raids on bandit hideouts in the Sankera axis (Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs) led to the arrest of over 70 suspects linked to banditry,” the CP stated.

He added that “these operations have disrupted criminal networks, destroyed camps, and facilitated the return of locals to their homes and farms.”

Ifeanyi also disclosed that “coordinated raids on criminal black spots in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs on 25th October led to the arrest of 39 suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a gang that had previously attacked security personnel.”

The Commissioner announced that 445 officers and men within the Command have recently been promoted.

He commended the collaboration of other security agencies, notably Operation Whirl Stroke, the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, and sister security outfits for their continued cooperation in restoring peace to the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, confirmed that about five people were killed between Monday and Tuesday in Ado and Ohimini LGAs by armed herders.

“The command is on top of the situation and has commenced an investigation into the incidents,” the PPRO said.
