A 72-year-old man, Anayinwa Daniel, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly breaking into a house and destroying property.
The defendant, whose house address was not disclosed, is facing a four-count charge of conduct likely assault and malicious damage .
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa said the defendant committed the offences on Feb.2 at about 10:am at James Daniel street , Olorunshogo Community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Famuyiwa alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by unlawfully jumping over a fence and breaking two padlocks securing two rooms belonging to the complainant, Mr James Daniel.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant also destroyed a CCTV camera valued at N150,000 and damaged an SUV with registration number KKH 596 AA, causing an estimated loss of N400,000 to the complainant.
He added that the defendant sometime on Feb.24 2024 at the same place assaulted the complainant by hitting him with big stone on his chest that caused him bodily harm.
According to prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 350, 168(D) 245 and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
The Magistrate. Mr A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of t N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogbe adjourned the case until June 5 for further mention.
